Some readers may have read stories in the local press in relation to our application to the Surrey Heath Borough Council for a Muslim burial ground.
There is currently a lack of space in the existing cemeteries located within the Borough and this has presented a problem in terms of allocating an area within those cemeteries to provide for a burial area for the local Muslim community.
A number of meetings have been held between the SHMA and the relevant figures on the Surrey Heath Borough Council in an effort address this issue. The council have expressed their concern and understanding of the situation and are committed to working with the SHMA to work out a solution that is workable for all parties involved.
As with any process involving governmental departments this will take time and patience to resolve. The SHMA continues to strengthen it’s links with the council and co-operate together for the benefit of all Muslims in the community. We will continue to keep you updated and provide information as and when it happens, feel free to check the SHMA website (www.shma.org.uk) for the latest news.
