Finding an opponent
We have a mailing list which includes people who are interested in playing squash. So the first thing to do is to get yourself added to the mailing list. The process is simple, simply register you interest by filling in your email address on the form on the main Squash Page. Once you are confirmed on the mailing list, you can simply send an email to everyone on the list challenging others to a game and you will soon find yourself with willing opponents.
What do you need to play?
The basic requirement is a squash racket which can be picked up quiet cheaply for around £10. Otherwise drop a mail to the squash list and you will be able to borrow a racket from one of the other people on the mailing list. You will of course need some squash balls, which can be picked up for around £4 for 3 from Tesco or any sports shop. Again some of us who already play do have balls that can be borrowed or your opponent may have a ball himself. Just make sure to check that you have the appropriate things between you and your opponent when turning up for a game... a racket and a ball!
Booking & Paying for Courts
The Arena in Camberley and Farnborough have squash court facilities and membership is not compulsory to book a court. Of course if you do have membership, it does make the chances of getting a booking a lot easier as members get preferential treatment. Kinetika also provides facilities and membership is required which is more expensive. But membership does have the advantage in that it combines courts (not only squash), but also unlimited gym, pool, sauna access, fitness lessons, etc.
However if some of the members have membership to sports centres which have squash courts this would result in a reduced fee for the courts. Typically, you can expect to pay around £6 for a 45 minute court session. The cost is usually shared between people playing.
The process would therefore be to
1) Use the mailing list to enquire if someone wants a game;
2) Once you have found an opponent, arrange a time and book the court;
3) Enjoy your game!!
Scoring System
We tend to use the classic scoring system i.e. best of 5 sets, first to 9 points with an optional set on 8-8 (first player to 8 decides) - scoring points only when "hand-in".
1 point for playing the match
1 point per game won
1 bonus point for completing the match (i.e. for the 3rd game) - to the winner only
1 additional bonus point for achieving a 3-0 victory
For the moment, we request that players please keep a record of the scores and email Brother Asim on

in order to help put together and set-up the leagues.
Setting up a ladder
In order to set up a league system, we need to get a rough understanding of peoples skill and ability levels. In order to this, it is initially suggested that the players go out and play each other and keep a record of scores. Armed with this data, relative abilities can be determined and a system set-up. Having a league system does not prevent people from playing friendly games with each other outside of the league system.
